Apple is reportedly developing a new affordable version of its popular AirPods.

Since the launch of AirPods in 2016, Apple has rolled out four different versions of the wireless headphones that range in price from £139 to £549. According to tech analyst Jeff Pu, Apple may now be working on a cheaper alternative, as reported by 9to5Mac.

Pu doesn’t share any intel on what to expect in terms of features or prices, but the headphones will presumably cost less than £139. He describes the "AirPods Lite" as a “lower priced product” to rival other affordable earbud manufacturers.

Basing his claims on industry sources, Pu alleges that there will less AirPods shipped out this year and part of the reason is the decreased demand for the AirPods 3 (the most recent update of the classic AirPods).

Last September, Apple unveiled the new second-generation noise-cancelling AirPods Pro, which are powered by Apple's new H2 chip and come with various updates including an extended battery life of up to 1.5 hours, personalised spatial audio, and touch controls. They're priced at £249.
