New vinyl compilation, ‘Raised By Rap’, celebrates 50 years of hip-hop evolution

Songs by A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan, Future and M.I.A. feature on Sony's release

Sony Music has shared details of a double LP compilation that looks at the development of hip-hop over the last 50 years.

‘Rap: 50 Years Of Hip Hop’ is released on double black vinyl on 29th July (pre-order here) as part of Sony's ongoing ‘Certified’ series, which celebrates hip-hop cuts from the label's archive.

Classic tracks from legendary acts including A Tribe Called Quest, Cypress Hill, Fugees, Outkast and Wu-Tang Clan feature on the compilation as well as contemporary names such as Future, M.I.A., and 21 Savage.

In other recent hip-hop news, a photozine exploring hip-hop culture from the early 1980s was released recently.

Hip Hop Years The B Sides 1982-2020 by British-born photographer Janette Beckman features 36 pages of original black-and-white photography of hip-hop icons including Roxanne Shanté, Rakim, Missy Elliott, Scott La Rock, Cash Money, Flavor Flav, EPMD, Kurtis Blow, Salt-N-Pepa, Joey Bada$$, Stetsasonic and others.
